Repsol Honda to officially reveal its 2020 MotoGP team including brothers Marc and Alex Marquez on February 4th in Jakarta.
Repsol Honda will officially unveil its 2020 MotoGP team including brothers Marc and Alex Marquez on February 4th in Jakarta.
In a statement from the team, it confirmed an official presentation will take place in an unnamed venue in Indonesia’s capital city on February 4th.
The date clashes with the final day of the Sepang Shakedown test, which runs between February 2-4, which Alex Marquez is permitted to take part in under the new testing rules which allows rookies to ride at the shakedown test. The official Sepang test follows on February 7-9 when all riders can take part.
Repsol Honda’s team launch will be the official revealing of Alex Marquez alongside his older brother and defending MotoGP world champion Marc as the pair form the squad’s new rider line-up following Jorge Lorenzo’s dramatic decision to retire at the end of the 2019 season.
Alex Marquez became the 11th-hour replacement for Lorenzo at Repsol Honda for 2020, meaning he and Marc make history as the first brother pairing in the premier class of Grand Prix racing.
The 23-year-old made his initial test debut for Repsol Honda in Valencia and Jerez at the end of the 2019 season. Marquez steps up to MotoGP as reigning Moto2 world champion and is already targeting the top rookie honour against fellow intermediate class graduates Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) and Iker Lecuona (Red Bull KTM Tech3).
Following the presentation in Jakarta the team will head back to Malaysia for the official three-day pre-season test where Marc Marquez will make his return to track action following shoulder surgery which he underwent in late November.
