Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphone launches with special camera effect for Instagram fans

The Galaxy S20 was revealed at an event in San Francisco this evening alongside two other smartphones – the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra

After months of anticipation, Samsung has finally unveiled its flagship smartphone for 2020 – the Galaxy S20.

The smartphone was revealed at an event in San Francisco this evening alongside two other smartphones – the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

While Samsung’s 2019 smartphone was called the S10, the tech giant surprised many by not using the ‘S11’ name for its smartphone this year.

Instead, the S20 name was chosen in honour of the 10 year anniversary of the Galaxy smartphone line.

The smartphones range in size from the 6.2-inch Galaxy S20 to the hefty 6.9-inch S20 Ultra. And with a 6.7-inch display, the S20+ sits somewhere between the two.

n the front of the smartphones, Samsung has moved the selfie camera into the top centre of the screen, while the top bezel has been shrunk down for an almost edgeless display.

Meanwhile, the back of the smartphones have also been rearranged, with the rear cameras now housed in a rectangular unit in the top left corner.

In terms of the cameras themselves, the S20 lineup is an absolute dream for photo lovers.

The S20 features a 10MP selfie camera, alongside a triple lens rear camera, while the S20+ and S20 Ultra both feature quad rear cameras.

And while it’s probably not necessary for most smartphone photographers, the S20 Ultra features a whopping 108 MP lens – one of the biggest we’ve ever seen in a smartphone!

Aside from the cameras themselves, Samsung has also launched a special new camera feature that’s ideal for budding Instagram influencers.

The feature, called Single Take, allows you to capture photos, videos and Boomerangs at the same time.

Users simply record a short video, and the feature will automatically capture the video, a photo, a black and white photo, a photo in portrait mode, and a Boomerang of the scene!

Other key features include 5G capabilities for all three smartphones (a 4G version of the S20 is also available), as well as pretty beastly batteries of 4,000mAh (S20), 4,500mAh (S20+) and 5,000mAh (S20 Ultra).

The smartphones – which come in grey, black, pink or blue – will be available for pre-order from March 13.

They’re priced at £799 (S20 4G), £899 (S20 5G), £999 (S20+ 5G), £1,199 (S20 Ultra 5G 128GB) and £1,399 (S20 Ultra 5G 512 GB).
